agencies and reports to the Carer’s Thematic Board. PAVO attends representing the 3rd sector, raising
issues on their behalf and providing feedback via this HSCN Blog and PAVO website.

Two Free Sessions in January - Hate Crime Training and Briefing
Spaces still available - PAVO is hosting two free training sessions delivered by Victim Support at the Conference Room, Unit 30, Ddole Road Enterprise Park, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, LD1 6DF. The training will be on Wednesday the 28th of January 2015 with a choice of 10.00 to 12.00 or 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.
A hate crime or hate incident is committed because of who you are or who someone thinks you are. Quite simply, if because of your age, disability, sexuality, religion, ethnicity, gender(including gender identity) or lifestyle choice (e.g. Goth) someone or a group of people targets you, commits a crime against you, bullies you or harasses you, then this is a hate crime or hate incident.
The training will -
Give information on the different types of Hate Crimes and Incidents
Inform of the impact on victims and the support available.
Set out the ways in which to report Hate Crimes and Hate Incidents
The training may demonstrate to grant aid bodies that your organisation is carrying out work to achieve your Equality Policy. A General Duty of the Equality Act 2010 is to 'Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation.'

Meetings of Physical Disability and Sensory Loss User Engagement Forum
PDSL is a user led engagement forum, facilitated by Adult Social Services. It receives reports from a range of agencies. Currently there is no pathway for reporting to a strategic board. PAVO attends representing the 3rd sector, raising issues on their behalf and providing feedback via this HSCN blog.
Cross Border Health Care- Parliamentary Committee Inquiry

Survey on involving young trustees
The Charities Aid Foundation is running a Young Trustee Survey, which will feed into a guide CAF is producing on engaging young trustees. 'Young' is defined for the guide as anyone aged between 18 and 30. The survey asks for input on experiences and difficulties of organisations engaging young

Working in partnership to tackle fuel poverty
The Welsh Government’s Nest scheme aims to tackle fuel poverty by improving the energy efficiency of existing homes across Wales.
Nest provides free advice to help households reduce their energy bills, increase their income and improve the energy efficiency of their homes. The scheme also provides free home improvements for people in receipt of a means tested benefit that own or privately rent their home. These improvements can include a new central heating boiler, loft insulation, or cavity wall and solid wall insulation.
Between 2011 and 2014, over 56,000 householders have contacted Nest and 13,400 have received free home improvements and saved an average of £475 on their energy bills.
Nest complements a range of advice and support services and works with partner organisations, including local authorities and a range of charities and third sector bodies, to reach households in most need. The team of Nest Partnership Development Managers are able to provide presentations and training, and work with partners on joint events and targeted campaigns.
Partner organisations then refer customers to Nest by either signposting the Nest freephone number (0808 808 2244) and website (www.nestwales.org.uk), or by using the dedicated Partner Portal website which provides the partner with feedback on their referrals.

Alzheimers Society - Activity Taster Session
Alzheimer's Society Activity Taster Session in Brecon on Monday 8th December 2014
This FREE event is for people with dementia and their carers, family or friends.
10.30am to 1.30pm at Ty Croeso, St David’s House, 48 Free Street, Brecon LD3 7BP
The activities planned are art/craft and group singing but the main emphasis is on getting together to socialise and offer support. There will be no charge for the session and lunch will be provided. For more information please contact Jean Nowell, Dementia Support Worker, on 01874 712083
