Defibuary Campaign

The Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust wants schools to get involved in their Defibuary campaign. Their aim is to encourage the public to know what a defibrillator is, where they are located and how to get funding in order to purchase one for their community. They want you to get staff, pupils and their families involved in this life saving campaign.

They have created a range of resources in order to help raise awareness of the campaign, for example:
· An assembly brief with flashcard that you can print off and use
· Posters for you to display on notice boards and around the school

AFTER a cardiac arrest every minute without CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and defibrillation reduces someone's chance of survival by 10 per cent.

The Welsh Ambulance Service wants schools to get involved in our Defibuary campaign. During February they are asking members of the public to take a selfie with a defibrillator, or a photograph of a public access defibrillator. They then want you to post the picture on their Twitter page, along with its location.

Raising awareness of where defibrillators are located in Wales, could have a significant impact on the survival of individuals who suffer a cardiac arrest.  Defibruary is about raising awareness of symptoms of cardiac arrest and the location of equipment available to the public, in a life threatening emergency.

· At least 12 young people will die every week and 7 people every hour in the UK.
· Every 3 minutes, someone in the UK is struck by a heart attack
· Around 30% of heart attacks are fatal

A large number of schools in Wales now have their own defibrillators. They would like you to Tweet pictures if you have one located in your school. As well as encouraging pupils and their families to get involved in the campaign.

Please Tweet your pictures to:  @WelshAmbPIH  #Defibuary   Help them raise awareness and save lives.
