Funding opportunities for those offering employment support to young people and the over 25s

WCVA’s free events happening across Wales - hear about new funding from the Active Inclusion (Youth) Fund.

Any organisations that can offer activities, qualifications or supported employment to young people who are not in employment, education or training, are invited to apply to WCVA’s Active Inclusion (Youth) Fund.

The fund is supported by the European Social Fund through Welsh Government, managed by WCVA and will operate in the West Wales and Valleys region. It is very similar to the Active Inclusion funds already open for over 25s, but this fund will focus on 16 - 24 year olds, particularly those young people who are furthest from the labour market and have multiple barriers to employment.

If your organisation is already an 'approved beneficiary' for the Active Inclusion Fund, it may also have been approved for the 16 – 24 age group and if so, will receive invitations to make grant applications as soon as they are published. If you are new to Active Inclusion, or European funding, WCVA is holding a series of events across Wales, which will introduce the fund, explain the online application process and offer support with networking and project planning. Applications for the over 25s are still open across Wales. Book your place now by contacting activeinclusion@wcva.org.uk

Equality in Film and Television project and opportunities

Diverse Cymru are working with and on behalf of the Welsh Government’s Creative Industries Sector Team to deliver a pioneering project, Diversity in Film and TV, to explore the barriers that may prevent people from diverse backgrounds becoming involved in the sector.

They are working with professionals in the creative industries to explore positive solutions to ensure that anyone with drive and talent has a fair chance to work successfully within a growing industry that represent the true diversity of Wales. They are currently identifying people from diverse backgrounds with the skills relevant to the creative sector and also promoting upcoming film and TV opportunities.

Working with film and TV companies, they are suggesting practical and affordable solutions aimed at diversifying their workforce – for example by identifying funding support for training and placement opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds.

They are also working with Wales Screen to ensure that opportunities within the creative industries are made available to everyone. They are especially interested in encouraging disabled people and people from BME communities to take advantage of these opportunities; the first step is to sign up and register your interests, skills and experience this is the portal to live job opportunities within this field. There currently are many opportunities for camera operators, caterers, hair dressers, make-up artists, carpenters, painters, animal trainers, runners, sound people and so on, the industry in Wales is having problems finding enough people to fill these roles.

If you (or your service users) are trying to break into the industry and believe you have been discriminated against or that additional barriers stopped you pursuing this career, please get in touch with them! They would like to add your story to their research to ensure that this does not happen in the future and that opportunities are equal for all.

You can start by taking a few minutes to complete our feedback form that will enable them to collect information on the type of support that you may need to get gainful employment in the creative industries, or, if you are an employer, the type of support that you might need to be fully inclusive in your work force.

Registered Managers Forum 2016

The Registered Managers Forums will be running a little differently this year; following the forums last autumn, they asked opinion on the structure and location of future forums. As a result, each forum will include a short general update on what’s new from the Care Council followed by an interactive session that focuses on an aspect of the new social care legislation in Wales. The remainder of the event will be dedicated to a practice exchange workshop.

The forums are now being run across 8 geographical areas and a number of registered managers have volunteered to work with the Care Council and the SCIP coordinators to plan and run the events. The volunteer managers have played a key role in identifying topics for practice exchange and local needs. This means that each forum has slightly different running times and will be considering different themes in the practice exchange sessions.

To book a place on the forum that best suits your geographical preference please let them know. A full programme for the day will be sent to you nearer the date. Please note, these events are only open to managers registered with the Care Council and you will need your registration number to apply to attend, a confirmation email will be sent to you if you are allocated a place. There is no charge for attendance but as places are limited, They would ask you to let them know if for any reason you cannot attend so that your place can either be cancelled and not incur costs or offered to someone on the reserve list. A light lunch will be provided at each forum.

Asset Based Approaches - “Building Communities from the Inside Out”

Assessing and building the strengths of individuals and the assets of a community opens the door to new ways of thinking about and improving the well -being of communities. For too long we have concentrated on the deficits and problems within communities, and it’s time for a different approach. Also there is increasing acknowledgement amongst practitioners at practice, policy and funding levels of the benefits of asset based approaches in supporting projects, programmes and initiatives in a more effective way. Assessing assets alongside needs will give a better understanding of communities and help build resilience, increase participation, engagement and involvement and develop better ways of providing services and sustainable initiatives.

CDC is providing learning opportunities on asset based approaches to individuals, communities, and organisations across the sectors.

If you are interested in this training, please contact emma@cdcymru.org in the first instance. If you wish to discuss further they can arrange for the trainers to contact you directly for an informal discussion.     www.cdcymru.org

Ovarian Cancer Awareness

Alicia Roberts is raising as much awareness about Ovarian Cancer in Wales as she can and to hopefully recruit a number “Voices” volunteers who either have / had ovarian cancer or are close family or friend of someone with Ovarian cancer to help raise awareness and tell their story.

If you are interested in an awareness talk or you are aware of any events you think would be useful please contact Alicia.

If you would like any of information leaflets or posters please let her know or follow the link where you can request them on the Ovarian Cancer Action website http://ovarian.org.uk/what-we-want/raising-awareness-of-ovarian-cancer/order-awareness-materials

Ovarian cancer is currently the UK’s most deadly gynaceological disease, with over 7,000 cases diagnosed every year. Every two hours a woman in the UK dies from ovarian cancer and the survival rate is lowest in Wales. Early detection can help prolong life and this is why awareness of symptoms is so important.

The way in which the council delivers care and support for adults, families, children and carers is changing.

On April 6, 2016 the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act came into force. Whilst it is called the ‘The Social Services and Wellbeing Act’ it affects a wide range of services that the council and its partners operate. For example, under wellbeing, health and leisure services are equally as important in achieving the right outcomes for citizens as our health and social services.

Volunteers’ Week – the Big Celebration/Wythnos Gwirfoddolwyr – y Dathliad Mawr

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of volunteers that takes place every year in June. Up and down the country there will be parties, award events and outings, recruitment fayres and exhibitions taking place, to recruit, reward and recognise volunteers.

This year the week has been extended in order to mark celebrations associated with the Queen’s 90th birthday. The Queen has been patron to more than 600 charities and organisations and so the Week has been extended to a fortnight to encompass a Patrons lunch on 12th June. Local communities are encouraged to participate by holding their own street party or event, and to use this opportunity to support their local communities through fundraising or volunteering.

A bilingual logo specifically for use this year, can be downloaded from the WCVA website.

Certificates are freely available online for organisations to use as a way thanking volunteers for their continued interest and involvement.

In Wales this extended Volunteers’ Week will see the annual ceremony for the Volunteer of the Year Awards and some regional conversations organised through WCVA’s Volunteering Spirit Wales project, about the involvement of volunteers at public events.

If you would like us to publicise what you are doing for Volunteers; Week, please contact Nicola Nicholls nnicholls@wcva.org.uk
