Accessing Public Buildings

Hayley Beavan works for Disability Powys as an Access and Outreach Worker and is experiencing difficulty in promoting the Access Service provided by experienced and trained access volunteers.

Powys Access Groups are keen to promote their existence, and the help they can provide to organisations on access to public buildings and environments.

Access Groups aim to improve access to buildings, services and information, and make a positive contribution to communities enabling accessibility for all.

The Groups are run by volunteers with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and varied life experiences, including building, design, occupational therapy and nursing.  The groups undertake local projects within their communities aimed at improving accessibility for all.

Early this year 22 volunteers mainly, attended specialised a 2 day access training course provided by experienced access consultants funding by the lottery.

They are able to undertake access audits of facilities, and provide suggestions on access improvements.  They provide a friendly and approachable service.  They are  there to help.

If you have any queries please contact Hayley Beavan at hbeavan@disabilitypowys.org.uk.
